Nesting bald eagles to delay construction of East County Line Road bridge

Nearby nesting bald eagles are delaying the start of building a replacement East County Line Road bridge south of Colo. Highway 119, Boulder County Transportation director George Gerstle said Thursday.

Gerstle said it may now be August or September before completion of the cycle in which eagle eggs are hatched, eaglets make their first flights and then fledge — leaving their nests within days after those first flights — and the young birds finally disperse from the nesting territory.

When that happens, construction can finally begin on replacing the bridge over the St. Vrain River that was washed out in last September’s flood, Gerstle said.
