Egg laid and then broken a half hour later at IWS Sauces nest

It was so exciting to see A-48 at the Sauces nest on Santa Cruz Island lay her first egg of a second clutch, after having lost their first egg a month ago.   The first time I’ve ever seen the wonder of a second try at a nest.   But about a half hour later, dad eagle A-40 flew in with a large gnarly branch and hooked A-48 around the neck with it briefly.  A bit of chaos and untangling ensued and a few minutes later A-48 removed a broken shell from the egg cup.  Drat!!!! Here’s to hoping that A-48 has more eggs to lay in her second clutch.  link to IWS cams: http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html
