Aww gee, 3 eggs, but no eaglets for eagle pair Derek and Savannah

Well darn, eagles Derek and Savannah at the Carolina Raptor Center had three eggs this year, but we have gone well beyond the normal incubation time frame and none of the eggs have hatched.  It seems clear that the eggs were not viable this year.  They were laid very early.  I was so hoping for a great year for this pair as they’ve had a couple of tough ones.  They continue to incubate the eggs at this point.  It is not uncommon for eagles to continue to incubate beyond the typical range, but generally will eventually stop of their own accord.  It seems one egg may have already broken as only two are visible in the nest at this point.  Link to cam:

  1. Gosh, Twizz, we seem to be off to a bit of a rough start this season. I’m concerned about Mom and Dad DNR. It seems awfully early for MN eagles to start. I know they know best, but I do wish they would have waited a little longer. As always, my thought and prayers are with all our majestic eagle families. Thank you for the update, Twizz.

  2. Awwww–I feel so bad for Savannah and Derek! They were one of the first pairs I watched way back when their really awful cam was on a 2 or 3 minute delay I think–might have been longer. LOVE that pair!!
