Minnesota DNR eagle cam up and running for the new season!

Today, the cam has been turned on for the Minnesota DNR nest.  The eagle pair at this nest have been seen in the area, so it will be exciting to watch as they get their nest ready for the new year!   They have been a little bit unpredictable on when they lay eggs, so its great that the cam is coming on early, just in case they lay in December – although more typically it is a bit later.  Link to cam: http://www.webcams.dnr.state.mn.us/eagle/

Fledge and Branch report – MN DNR!

Both eaglets branched recently and today one has fledged!  The fledged eaglet has been back to the nest at least once and is nearby according to reports.  Congratulations to all who love and watch this nest!  Two beautiful eagles growing strong!  Big thanks to JoyS for the reports about the fledge!  Link to cam: http://www.webcams.dnr.state.mn.us/eagle/

Fledge and Branch Report!

Here is a quick report of the latest fledging and branching news:

Both Berry College eaglets have successfully fledged!  One of the eaglets was not seen for a couple of days after fledging, but was seen with Dad Eagle today, and the other has been sticking close to the nest and has been visible on cam.  So, both doing well!

One eaglet at Minnesota DNR has branched!  Looks like sibling won’t be too far behind.  Pic above is from the Minnesota DNR nest this afternoon.

Watch All-Clear for Minnesota DNR nest

The little perished eaglet is no longer visible on the nest, so an all-clear to watch again, if you felt that you wanted to give it a couple of days before watching again.  There continues to be ‘bonking’ between the remaining two, but that is to be expected and there is certainly plenty of food at this nest.  As can be seen in the picture, they are just about surrounded by food and reports are that both are getting good meals.  Link to cam: http://www.webcams.dnr.state.mn.us/eagle/

Critical Watch Alert – Minnesota DNR – loss of an eaglet

As just reported, the smallest eaglet at the Minnesota DNR nest has died. I am doing a critical watch alert due to the fact that some may not want to watch as the perished eaglet is disposed of at the nest.  There are a few possibilities.  It could simply be absorbed into the nesting material, the parents may feed it to the remaining eaglets, or it may be removed from the nest.  At the moment, the little one is in the bottom of the nest bowl, essentially under the two that remain.  The little one is not very easy to see, but it is visible (although not in the picture I have posted here).  I will post an “all-clear” once it has been resolved.   My condolences to the many who watch and love this nest.

Sad loss of the littlest eaglet at the Minnesota DNR nest

I am sad to report that the smallest eaglet at the Minnesota DNR nest has died.  You may decide that you do not want to watch for the next day or so as things unfold with potential disposal of the eaglet by the parents.  Will do a Critical Watch Alert shortly with more information.  I am just watching a feeding now and am glad to see that the remaining two are both getting fed well, with #2 getting food even with some bonking from #1

Second and Third hatches complete at Minnesota DNR!

Whew! I’ve always heard that hatches can take up to 48 hours, but little #2 at this nest, is the first I’ve seen that really did take that long and maybe a little bit longer.  Looking very strong and grown up this morning after finally exiting the shell overnight.  Little #3 is on schedule, newly hatched and looking great!  Big thanks to Joy and Ginger for the heads up about the hatches!  Congrats to all who love and watch this nest!  Link to cam: http://www.webcams.dnr.state.mn.us/eagle/

..and there is a pip at Minnesota DNR!!!

Yippee, we have a pip!!! Thanks to JoyS for the heads up!  That kid has got to be dizzy, the nest is moving like crazy in the wind   But I guess with all that egg rolling they are used to it! LOL!  Link to cam: http://www.webcams.dnr.state.mn.us/eagle/
